Early Intervention 

HELPING CHILDREN WITH AUTISM PACKAGE

"Under the early intervention component of the Helping Children with Autism package, all children aged six and under who are diagnosed with an ASD and are not yet at school, will be eligible for a funding package of up to  $12 000 (up to $6 000 per financial year) to assist with the financial cost of accessing early intervention services. An eligible child is one who has been diagnosed with an ASD, who is aged zero to 6 years ."

Early Childhood Intervention Services (ECIS) -  for children 0-6 years.

 

The Federal Department of Health and Aging has published a research review.  It identifies the most effective models of practice in early intervention for children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD’s).

If your child is eligible for early intervention services, you'll be able to choose which services suit your family best.  However, be aware that there will waiting lists. For more information go to:

Specialist Children’s Services

Specialist Children's Services Teams (SIRT) are located in the Department of Human Services. They facilitate access to a range of early childhood services. This team includes:

  • occupational therapists
  • physiotherapists
  • psychologists
  • social workers
  • speech pathologists
  • educational advisers

Early childhood intervention access in this region have to go through the Specialist Information and Referral Team (SIRT).

This means you contact SIRT and then choose services from either, Bendigo Community Health Early Intervention Services, Noah's Ark and Scope.

Noah’s Arc is a not-for-profit statewide service assisting both children with disabilities and their families. Bendigo Noah’s Arc offers inclusion support. Inclusion support works in  partnership with childcare services to include children who require additional support.
